Give Blood, Help Someone!

January is National Blood Donor Month and in order to have blood when people need it, hospitals rely on blood donations.
Southeastern Health’s Southeastern Regional Medical Center will host a blood drive on Feb. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the hospital’s Assembly Room.
Although blood centers try to keep an adequate supply of blood on hand, there’s always a risk that supply won’t meet demand. Just one donation could help save up to three lives, according to a report by the American Red Cross.
Generally, if you’re 17 years old or older, weigh at least 110 pounds and are healthy enough to perform normal activities, you can donate blood. To make sure that you’re eligible to donate, staff at the donor center will ask you some questions about your medical history. Answers are always completely confidential.
