Todays question of the day is from the pre-algebra category
If x and y are odd positive integers, which of the following must be even
A. 1 only
B. 2 only
C. 1, 3 only
D. 1, 2, 3 only
The answer is C.
Every odd number is one more than an even number.
I is even because adding two odd numbers together gives an answer that is two more than an even number, so it must also be even.
III is even because (y+1) is even and therefore it has two as a factor. Multiply it by anything, and the answer always has two as a factor!
