Today in History. On January 29, 1845,  Edgar Allen Poe first published his poem " The Raven". His works are so significant that we still study them in school present . Also, in America, Kansas became the 34th state of the Union during the Civil War. The Civil War has the most recorded deaths of American History. The struggle between pro- and anti-slave forces in Kansas was a major factor in the Civil War.
